Portraits

The artist Simone Hübner is in search of the truth behind the things of everyday life. To do so, she tries to strengthen her intuitive side. A difficult task. Accordingly, her painting process is unusual: Starting from a Zen meditation, she paints alternately sometimes with closed and sometimes with open eyes. In this way she succeeds in taking snapshots of the mysterious world of her inner self, which she tries to see ever more clearly without covering it up with rational thought processes.

For the painting from the series "Inner Portraits" shown here, the painter traced her face with the index finger of her left hand, while at the same time painting what she felt with her right. The resulting image does not correspond to any current ideal of beauty and ignores all academic painting techniques. Instead, it shows a deeper, hidden side of the artist that looking in the mirror would not have revealed.
